Ho iniziato il post in francese perchè il lancio della nuova versione esclusiva del Mekaneko avrà luogo al Japan Expo 2011 (Parigi, 30 giugno -3 luglio) quindi, se potete, venite a perdervi nella più grande e importante convention europea di manga-anime-games-Giappone! e incontratemi, coi miei piccoli Mekaneko, allo stand Artoyz il venerdì 1 e sabato 2 (16h -18h).

E’ giunto il momento per un post con qualche piccola anteprima di VOX!
Cominciamo con un buon teaser dell’immagine “Vostok 1″ che è già apparsa da un po’ sul mio facebook!
Un timido omaggio alla conquista spaziale, nell’anniversario dei 50 anni dall’impresa di Jurij Gagarin… Nel mix di tematiche, ispirazioni, divagazioni, ecco la prima illustrazione “space” ma non reserà sola. Rock e spazio, si incontrano perfettamente anche nelle canzoni della band migliore del nuovo millennio, i Muse (purtroppo gli Smashing Pumpkins sono da considerarsi chiusi nel 2000).
E’ molto importante quello che ascolto mentre creo VOX, la musica insieme alle emozioni vengono distillate in immagini.

It’s time for a post with some previews from VOX!
Let’s begin with a nice teaser of the image “Vostok 1″ which already appeared since a few weeks on my facebook!
A bashful hommage to space conquest, in the 50th anniversary of Juri Gagarin’s accomplishment… In the mix of themes, inspirations, digressions, here the first “space” illustration, but it won’t be the only one.
Rock and space blend together well also in the songs of one of the best bands in the new millenium, the Muse (unfortunately the Smashing Pumpkins are to be considered as gone since 2000). What I listen while creating VOX is very important, the music and the feelings are distilled together into images.

Ne approfitto per confermare che la data di pubblicazione di VOX è prevista verso la fine del 2012, e che sto mettendo davvero tutto me stesso in questo artbook, e voglio andare anche oltre me stesso, ma di questo ne parlerò più avanti. Allego altri misteriosi e antipatici teaser, da altre immagini di VOX.
E prometto un nuovo post settimana prossima, un post sul Mekaneko e le prossime novità.

I take advantage of the post to confirm that the publishing date for VOX is planned for the end of 2012, and that I’m really putting all of myself into this artbook, and I also want to go beyond myself, but I’ll speak about this later on. I attach some other mysterious and nasty teasers, from other illustrations in VOX.

Mi sono arrivati finalmente tutti i comics Marvel di cui ho fatto le covers!

Ali vello di colori e stampa non sono il massimo, credo di aver usato il giusto profilo colore USA, ma comunque mi sembrano piuttosto desaturati, anche se la cosa non è troppo grave, visto il concept design da poster “vintage”. Ho visto che anche in USA è stata scelta la mia cover con Iron Patriot per la raccolta Avengers! così come è accaduto in Italia e Francia, soddisfazione.

E’ arrivato anche il primo numero di Breaking into comics the Marvel way a tutti gli effetti, la mia cover preferita tra quelle che ho realizzato! e all’ultima pagina si annuncia il numero seguente, e qui, come ho già spiegato, la coincidenza ha voluto Lostfish come cover artist! bella! ♥

At last I received all the Marvel comics for which I designed the covers!
Colours and print quality are not top ones, I think I used the right USA colour profile, but they look desaturated anyway, even if this is not a big issue, because the concept design was “vintage” poster.  I also see that my cover with Iron Patriot for the Avengers collection was selected! As it happened in Italy and France, this is satisfaction!

Also, the first issue of Breaking into comics the Marvel way is available at all effects, my favourite cover among the ones I made! and in the last page the next issue is presented, and here, as I have already said, coincidence wanted Lostfish as cover artist! Lovely ♥

In questo periodo sto ultimando il design per un nuovo libro di Sky-Doll
(Barbucci – Canepa). Skydoll Decade 00 > 10 è una voluminosa raccolta che celebra i dieci anni di questa grandiosa serie, tra le sorprese di questo libro, ci saranno molti tributi e omaggi realizzati da eccezionali artisti, ecco il mio personale contributo.

In the last few weeks, I’m finishing the design for the new Sky-Doll book
(Barbucci – Canepa). SkyDoll Decade 00>10 is a huge collection celebrating the ten years anniversary of this great series, and among the surprises of this book, there are going to be many tributes and presents made by exceptional artists, and here my personal contribution:

La mia Noa anticipa le atmosfere mistiche indianeggianti dell’attesissimo
Sky-Doll 4, ovviamente personalizzata con uno stile elettropop un po’ anni ‘80.

My Noa foretells the mystical and indian-like atmosphere of the most awaited for SkyDoll 4, obviously personalized with an electro-pop style a bit ’80s.

Sempre in tema Sky-doll, ho appena ricevuto un bellissimo magazine Coreano, Toxic, nel quale appare il mio episodio di Skydoll Spaceship Collection (SDSSC). La rivista è molto simile alle raccolte giapponesi che io amo, come “Robots” o “Gelatin” e la qualità è molto elevata, come di consueto per queste pubblicazioni orientali.
Proprio come nel libro originale, anche qui, oltre al fumetto, c’è una doppia pagina con i disegni preparatori, la grafica riprende quelal che fevi io per SDSSC, con fondo bianco.

Always talking about Sky-Doll, I’ve just received a beautiful Corean magazine, Toxic, in which my episode for SkyDoll Spaceship Collection (SDSSC) is published. The magazine is very similar to the Japanese collections I love, like “Robots” or “Gelatin” and the quality is very high, as usual for these kind of eastern publications.
Just like in the original book, also here, in addition to the comic, there’s a double page with the sketches, the graphic reminds the one I did for SDSSC, on a white background.

Lo so, arrivo un po tardi con questo post…
Il Mekaneko contest ha avuto un successo inaspettato, sono arrivati più di 120 tra disegni, illustrazioni, foto, puppets!
A causa di questa entusiastica partecipazione, abbiamo deciso di consegnare 6 premi, invece dei 3 previsti… e comunque non è stato facile scegliere!

I know, I’m a bit late with this post… The Mekaneko Contest had an unexpected high response, we received more than 120 between drawings , illustrations, pictures, puppets! Because of this enthusiastic participation we decided to give 6 prizes instead of 3… and even so it wasn’t an easy choice!

Il primo premio consiste in un esclusivissimo Mekaneko custom che ho realizzato per questa occasione: il Mekaneko Dark Sound!
Ho inserito un piccolo speaker USB nella testa del Mekaneko, non è stato affatto facile, ho praticamente distrutto e ricostruito il dispositivo elettronico per adattarlo al piccolo cranio.

The first prize is a very exclusive Mekaneko custom I realized for this occasion: the Mekaneko Dark Sound!
I put a small USB speaker inside the Mekaneko’s head, it wasn’t easy at all, I basically destroyed and rebuilt the electronic device to adapt it to the small skull.

La presa USB si plugga alla bocca del Mekaneko, invece il minijack per collegare alla sorgente sonora (iPod, iPhone, computers ecc…) attraversa il corpo ed esce al posto della coda, e credetemi, anche fare questa modifica non è stato semplice!

Si può vedere bene dalla foto sopra, all’interno della testa c’è un led, quando la USB è collegata è rosso, quando il dispositivo funziona con la piccola batteria invece è verde.

The USB is plugged into the Mekaneko’s mouth, while the minijack to plug it to the sound source (iPod, iPhone, computer, etc) goes through the body and goes out instead of the tail, and believe me, even this modification wasn’t an easy one!

You can see it well from the picture above, there is a led inside the head that turns red when the USB is plugged in, when the device works with the small battery it turns green.

Dopo la base di primer, ho poi verniciato in nero opaco, e realizzato degli stickers appositamente per questo esemplare, in argento.

After the primer base, I painted it with black opaque paint, and designed some stikers just for this exemplary, in silver colour.

Ho annunciato nel post precedente che in occasione del Japan Expo 2010 di Paris ci saranno diverse novità riguardanti Mekaneko. Prima di tutto, Sarò presente allo stand Artoyz, e il Mekaneko sarà protagonista, potrete vedere ancora qualche meraviglioso custom, acquistare Mekaneko signed e personalizzati direttamente da me, approfittare di esclusive offerte…
Sarà presentata la versione DIY (Do It Yourself) quindi completamente bianca e pronta per essere disegnata e reinterpretata.

Ora posso mostrare meglio 2 immagini che ho realizzato per promuovere questi eventi, e che avevo solo fatto intravedere nel post precedente. Queste 2 illustrazioni sono visibili a una risoluzione maggiore qui e qui.

Lately I’m setting up some news regarding my Mekaneko, everything will sum up in an exclusive event at the Japan Expo 2010  in Paris. New illustrations which I will soon show you in full, and some other news…
At the Japan Expo an exclusive version of my toy will be introduced, and I will be sitting both at the Artoyz stand and to that of Soleil.

Depuis quelques jours, Mekaneko est également en vente aux USA, distribué par Diamond… le voici présenté sur la fameuse revue Previews, entouré de Barbie!

Lunedi 26 Aprile sarà disponibile alla vendita sul sito Artoyz.com il Mekaneko in versione speciale Artoyz!
Ho realizzato questo design proprio in esclusiva, e sarà venduto in soli 200 esemplari.
La metà del corpo nera, è satinata e ha delle grafiche nero lucide, dal vero l’effetto è più evidente.

Il design della metà bianca “anatomica” deriva da una illustrazione presente nel booklet (che, anche in questa versione, è allegato al toy). La stessa tavola meccanico-anatomica ha anche ispirato il MKNK custom prototype che avevo esposto a Paris, proprio alla Artoyz Gallery.

Se amate Mekaneko e volete una versione davvero esclusiva, compratelo!

Questa illustrazione è già apparsa parzialmente nell’header del KS4, ora l’o messa come intro, ma in effetti non avevo ancora scritto un post per presentarla… ce n’è bisogno? un pochino si.

Prima di tutto, il significato del titolo del post, e di quello che appare scritto nel cartiglio dell’immagine: rebuild 2003 – 2010…
In effetti questo disegno è una specie di “remake” di un mio disegno che feci nel 2003, quell’anno lavoravo come designer alle cartiere PIGNA,
e in ufficio ogni tanto trovavo il tempo per disegnare (poco) anche le mie cose, ho disegnato un piccolo sketch, che poi ho colorato in photoshop
solo con il mouse (uh!). Sempre in quel periodo, oltre a suonare coi Sephiroth, suonavo anche coi Wasabi, ecco che quest’immagine divenne la cover del nostro demo: First Step.

In seguito ho notato che in rete questo disegno ha avuto un buon successo, quindi, sette anni dopo, sull’onda del “rebuild” dei film cinematografici di Evangelion, (si sa che sono ultrafan!) mi è venuta l’idea di fare un nuovo disegno riprendendo quel concept.

Ritengo importante questo disegno per me, anche perchè è da considerarsi l’inizio del “project VOX”

Piccola nota “off topic”, è sorprendente che il website dei Sephiroth è ancora online con la sua pagina “commemorativa” anche se in teoria ho chiuso il contratto col provider, non ho più pagato per questo dominio: www.sephirothband.com… potrebbe significare una reunion? oh oh oh!
